Castellum Hotel
Branding, Identity
[2022]
Savannah College of Art & Design

Background

One major defining thread among all the boutique hotel companies is design, both interior design and the design of items that belong in the hotel, that offer guests information, and useable items during their stay. You will produce a series of production-oriented items for a boutique hotel of your choosing. You will come up with a name, and location.

Objective

To familiarize yourself with the nature of a socially-consious, boutique hotel with a specific clientele. To become acquainted with a current typographic aesthetic, and its inherent components, including follow-up practice in typographic hierarchy.

Approach

Located in the beautiful city of Bordeaux, Castellum Hotel embodies the historic architecture and natural landscape into a rustic, but modern looking brand.

The logo is based on the distinctive “S” shape of the Garonne River that passes through the center of the city. This line element is balanced with a circle that symbolizes the sun and the cyclical movement of nature. This contrast in weight and shape creates a harmonious balance between the two elements marking the city’s beauty and connection to nature.

Located in the South of France, sunrise spills across exceptional architecture as well as the surrounding vineyards of the city. The hotel aims to empower organic nature and harmonious beauty by playing with these two elements in the design system.

All photographs are original and taken by myself in Savannah Georgia. Savannah is home to old victorian architecture, rustic furniture stores, and modern hotels, which is a perfect place for collecting photographs to use for this hotel project.
