Background

“Taliesin” is the name of Frank Lloyd Wright’s home in Wisconsin, though the name is now applied to the whole valley.  Taliesin was built in 1911 for himself and Mamah Borthwick Cheney, with whom he had lived during his two-year stay in Europe.

Objective

Choose an existing book about a specific building, and redesign the cover, interior layout, using the existing images and content using the principles of  format, time, identity, structure, art, typography, layout, prototyping, and production.

Approach

The book cover design mirror’s Taliesin’s signature architectural and interior features. Lines that cross the front cover is taken from the building’s silhouette, and the typography is inspired by the structure’s horizontality. Frank Lloyd wright was an innovator and pioneer in his respective field but maintained traditional values, the cover design interprets this into a contemporary style that still relies on a grid format.
